Choosing an architect's laptop
Questions people ask
What laptop specs do I need for Revit?
Autodesk recommends 16 GB RAM (32 GB for large models), a multi-core processor and a DirectX 11-capable dedicated graphics card. In practice an RTX 4050 or better with 16 GB RAM handles student and small-practice models comfortably.
Is a gaming laptop good for architecture?
Yes. Gaming laptops give the most GPU for the price and run Revit, SketchUp and Lumion well. The trade-offs are weight, battery life and looks; creator and workstation models fix those at a higher price.
How much RAM do architects need?
16 GB for coursework and small projects, 32 GB when Revit, a renderer and Photoshop are open together. Most laptops here can take 32 GB; we upgrade in store.
Should an architect choose a 14-inch or a 16-inch laptop?
For drawing work a 16-inch screen is noticeably better and still portable. Buy a 14-inch only if you travel constantly and use an external monitor at the desk.
Do you have laptops suitable for architecture students on EMI?
Yes. Every laptop on this page can be bought on EMI on most credit and debit cards, arranged in store or on WhatsApp, with a GST invoice.
